BNPP Case in France: Lawyers from the Litigation Action Group of FIDH in France, Global Diligence LLP in the U.K., Amrin Law and Consultants Group (“AMRIN”), and a legal group in Sudan (pending) formed a hybrid legal team and are representing nine Sudanese victims in pursuing unprecedented legal claims against a French bank for alleged financial crimes and complicity in torture, genocide, and crimes against humanity. The complaint alleges the crimes were committed by the Sudanese authorities across Sudan and related financial crimes of money laundering and concealment to combat this economic participation and benefit from crimes. By targeting the first European bank, the case sheds light on the responsibility of financial institutions responsible for the commission of atrocities and opens the way for future cases involving other financial actors. This case is one of the first to examine the financial dimensions of war crimes and the potential accountability of banks and is an example of the innovative work GD Alliance aims to achieve.
